Happy Valentine's DayKrista Dunk
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
~Jeremiah 31:3a
On this Valentine’s Day, are you searching for everlasting love?
Love, red hearts and flowers are the emphasis this week in ads, on TV, on the web and in casual conversation at the office water cooler. Whether you are single, widowed or married, each of us longs for someone to love us forever. Unconditionally, someone who can look past our failures, short-comings, and limitations. Sadly, many of us doubt that everlasting love is even possible or available to us. Many people feel left out on Valentine’s Day.
Good News—This is Your Holiday, too!
Take this thought to heart; YOU are loved with an everlasting love by the only One who truly knows how to do so; God. Let’s be honest…as humans, we don’t always love perfectly. For the most part, we offer conditional love (that doesn’t really fall into the everlasting love category).
If you are looking for your deepest emotional needs to be satisfied by another person, prepare for a lot of disappointment. That is a responsibility which is beyond the capacity for us as people. Could you fulfill that for someone else? Not completely, so don’t have the expectation another person can do it for you. My husband and I have been married for over 17 years (happily, I might add), but neither one of us realistically can satisfy each other’s deepest emotional needs. This is God’s job, and God’s alone.
Say this out loud to yourself, right now, “I am loved. God loves me with an everlasting love.”
Happy Valentine’s Day to you.
